"Winemaker Silvio Alberto working with consultant Michel Rolland, is clearly a proponent of the bigger-is-better school, and he deserves credit for making big wines that are balanced besides being brawny. This high-end Malbec, which is reasonably priced, blasts with menthol, prune, chocolate and cassis. It's modern and chewy, but has enough tannin, acid and grit to keep it in fine form."

Issue 111
Impressive wine at the price "...very supple, full bodied and well balanced; a stylish slightly oaked Malbec, tasting ...of toast, black currant, cherry and roasted nut."

"
Polished style, with raspberry and boysenberry fruit layered with mocha and cocoa notes. Rich finish."

($23) Ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, currant, leather, woodsmoke, licorice and pepper. Moderately ripe, supple and fine-grained, with decent nuance and flavor definition. Slightly green and pinched on the end, but less aggressively dry than the Winemaker's Selection reds, and the other Reserve bottlings, from this new producer.

2006 Edition
An Excellent Wine
Deep, intense red-violet. Intense well-defined perfumes of plum marmalade, lavender, violets and a burnt caramel, which in the mouth become fruit and toasted coffee, with a dense tannic scheme that will evolve well with aging. "Very persistent and expressive"(CE); "structured and harmonious" (MR);
"A very elegant specimen" (NG).

For a splurge, the 2003 Andeluna Reserve Malbec, at $23, is superb and quite refined for a Malbec.

May, 2006
The rich Andeluna 2003 Reserve Malbec was a luxurious, romantic purple in color, and it offered up dark fragrances of berries, licorice and oak as we swirled it in our glasses.  We sensed a little pepper in it, too, and after a while, vanilla, possibly augmented by chocolate.  The producer recommends serving it with grilled vegetables, pastas and roasted meats.  We just recommend serving it.

Exceptional - July 13, 2006
Blue and red fruit with a soft entry and juiciness, but good structure .

June 29, 2005
Dark in color and extremely rich, this deeply flavored wine features appealing notes of dark berries, black cherries, cocoa and spices. With just enough wood to stiffen its spine but not enough to dry the finish, it will prove very pleasing now but can also benefit from another three or four years of aging.
